What is the GMAT? What Does It Cover?

GRE and GMAT exams are very important for students who want to study abroad. The GMAT expansion is; It is included in the literature as the 'Graduate Management Admission Test'. Thanks to this exam, which is translated as the Graduate Management Transition Exam, students can study abroad. This exam is the beginning of the graduate program, which is used to measure students' abilities in English and Mathematics. This exam, which is carried out in the computer environment, is a criterion used to be placed in the graduate program.

At the beginning of the answers to the questions of what is GMAT, it is expressed as one of the exams applied for master education. This exam, which is applied worldwide, is carried out by computer. However, in areas where computer technology has not developed enough, the exam is also done on paper. The highest score required for this exam is evaluated out of 800. Thanks to the quality training received, scores between 760-740 can be obtained very easily.

The fee for the GMAT exam is $250. The GMAT exam is an exam that can be attended by people who want to do MBA, master's and doctorate especially in America and Canada. Candidates must be at least 18 years old. In addition, you have the right to take the exam 5 times in a 12-month period.

What is the Duration and Point System of the GMAT?

The total duration of the GMAT exam is three hours and seven minutes. The duration of the sections are as follows;

  • Analytical Writing – 1 question 30 minutes
  • Integrated Reasoning – 12 questions 30 minutes
  • Quantitative Reasoning – 31 questions 62 minutes
  • Verbal Reasoning – 36 questions 65 minutes

The point system is as follows;

  • Analytical Writing: 0-6 points
  • Integrated Reasoning: 1-8 points
  • Quantitative Reasoning: 0-60 points
  • Verbal Reasoning: 0-60 points

Your total score, which consists of Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections in the GMAT exam and their combination, is calculated by considering factors such as the number of questions you answered, the number of questions you answered correctly or incorrectly, and the difficulty level of the questions. Analytical Writing and Integrated Reasoning sections are evaluated independently from other sections. While the total score in the GMAT exam is evaluated between 200-800 points, the average GMAT score is 552.

What is GRE? What Does It Cover?

The GRE exam, which is accepted in many countries providing education in English, constitutes the basic admission requirement for master's and doctoral education. The GRE exam generally consists of two parts:

  • GRE General Test (ETS GRE General Page)
  • GRE Subject Test (ETS GRE Subject Sheet)

The GRE General Test is a general exam and is taken by all students who are going to graduate or doctorate.

The GRE Subject Test, on the other hand, is the exam that must be completed by students who want to pursue graduate education in 8 different disciplines. In addition to the general test, the Subject test must also be completed.

The exam consists of 3 parts: Quantitative, Verbal and Composition.

The verbal section has 30 questions that must be completed in 30 minutes. There are 28 questions in the numerical section that must be completed in 45 minutes. 2 questions are asked in the composition section. The first question takes 45 minutes to ask for comments on a topic, while the second part consists of a 30-minute section where you are asked to reason about an argument.

How is the GRE's Duration and Point System?

In the GRE, you score points over three sections. These;

  • Analytical Writing
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Quantitative Reasoning

These scores are generated by the following departments:

  • 1 Analytical Writing section
  • 2 Verbal Reasoning sections
  • 2 Quantitative Reasoning sections

In addition to the sections above, 1 Research or 1 Verbal Reasoning and/or Quantitative Reasoning section is asked.

Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections are scored between 130-170 each. 

The Analytical Writing section is scored between 0-6.

The Analytical Writing section takes 60 minutes, the Verbal Reasoning section takes 60 minutes and the Quantitative Reasoning section takes 70 minutes in total.

Common Aspects and Differences of GRE and GMAT Exams

Although the GRE and GMAT exams have most common aspects, they also have different aspects. The first factor common to both exams is that these exams are shaped according to writing skills and academic skills. Another important argument for the two exams is to demonstrate the students' discussion skills by working together. Comparing the studies done and improving their skills on this subject are among its other positive features.

Another common issue for these exams is that 'vocabulary' is provided at a valid rate. Both the GRE and GMAT exams must be well-known, consisting of 7-8 pages of Latin compositions. In both exams, there is an application called the 'drawer system'. With this application, you will be able to solve exam tactics in a positive way by evaluating what, where and how questions are asked. In addition, contrary to popular belief, preparing for these exams are exams that can be studied in a short time like 2.5-3 months.

The first place among the differences between the GRE and GMAT exams is the score criteria in which they are evaluated. While the required score for the GRE exam is at a maximum of 170; For the GMAT exam, this is calculated over a maximum of 800 points. The first of these exams is preferred more by most universities in the world. This exam also focuses on mathematics and English and reveals the latest status in these courses taken throughout his education life.

For the second of these exams; Grammar knowledge is very important. This exam is mostly preferred by those who want to pursue a master's degree in business administration abroad. It is an ambitious exam, especially preferred by students who want to do an MBA. Some methods that are functional in all exams also help students cope with stress.

In order to participate in the exam, students must have a minimum upper intermediate level or above.

The GRE exam, which has the right to take a maximum of 5 times in 12 months, is valid for 5 years.

The GRE exam can be computer-assisted as well as on paper.

The duration of the computer-assisted GRE exam is 3 hours and 45 minutes. It consists of 6 parts and there is a 10-minute break after 3 parts.

The duration of the paper-based GRE exam is 3 hours and 30 minutes. It consists of 6 parts. After the second part, there is a 10-minute break.

There is no set score for the GRE exam. Each institution may request a different GRE score.

The fee for the general GRE exam is $255, and the fee for the GRE Subject exam is $150. All students who aim to study for a master's or doctorate in Social Sciences or Engineering can take the GRE General Test. In recent years, some universities also accept students with GRE scores for MBA programs.
